How to be Smarter: One of the easiest things I have done to stop wasting time is moving the app icons that I tend to look at mindlessly [read: Facebook] off my phone's home screen. I don't yet have the willpower to delete them completely off my phone, but just by moving them off the home screen I noticed I am opening them less.
